Safe Cigarettes, Low Tar, Light and Ultra Light Brands.
There is no such thing as a safe cigarette. Tobacco companies have experimented with smokeless cigarettes, low tar cigarettes, ultra light cigarettes and slim cigarettes. Some have even put tobacco substitute cigarettes on the market.
Even today, many smokers think that low-tar or so-called light or ultra-light cigarettes are better for them than full-strength smokes. Theoretically reducing tar levels also tends to lower nicotine levels, studies have shown that smokers inadvertently compensate for the loss of the nicotine. Smokers of low-tar cigarettes inhale more deeply, take puffs more often, and even cover up the tiny holes near the filter that were put there to reduce the amount of smoke, and subsequently the amount of tar, that a smoker inhales.
Since the 60s many people have experimented with safe, tobaccoless cigarettes. All sorts of gizmos and configurations have been tried. These include nicotine dispensers and electric heat sources.
Endless filters have been tried and the modern "light" cigarette has a row or double row of holes punched into the paper to allow the smoker to draw in extra air instead of cigarette smoke. Crystalline, carbon and fiber filters have all been experimented with. In some countries water is used to cool the cigarette smoke.
The chemical composition of cigarettes has been tampered with, tested, altered, changed to no avail. Countless additives have been used to alter and disguise the smoke taste, smell and flavor. History has shown that removing one component leaves a surplus or deficit in some other component leaving the end result unsaleable. The bottom line is nicotine is addictive and this makes the product a requirement in those smokers who have been hooked!
